SHERMAN ADAMS

BBK

Sherman Adams is a seasoned operations professional with profound expertise in procurement, supplier quality, supplier development and supply chain management. He has extensive knowledge and international experience in components, new materials and manufacturing processes.

Most recently, Adams was a self-employed manufacturer’s representative responsible for the sales and marketing of two foreign companies- a Chinese aluminum, zinc and magnesium die cast company and a Korean metal stamping tool manufacturer.

As Director of Global Sourcing and Business Development at a global consulting firm, Adams was responsible for new business development of the company’s sourcing, supplier development/quality and training services. Among his accomplishments, Adams successfully signed four new customers in the first six months; assessed China suppliers; wrote, negotiated, and won a contract to benchmark global auto part prices for a Korean automotive company; and assessed 20 Egyptian automobile suppliers in Lean Manufacturing, Quality, and Management per global company standards.

Adams also spent over 30 years at a leading, global OEM. As Purchasing Manager of their Shanghai support team in Detroit, he quoted and negotiated prices and contracted parts— meeting 100% of required sourcing.

As Purchasing Manager for a joint venture in Shanghai, Adams identified over 400 suppliers, performed assessments, and awarded contracts to 125 suppliers for the purchase of 1,500 parts, allowing him to achieve 42% local content at the start of vehicle production and a localization price savings of 40% below the import price. He was also responsible for the standard implementation quality systems (QS9000, APQP, PPAP, and Run-at-Rate, etc.) into their China suppliers.

Adams has an extensive background in supplier improvement through the use of Lean Manufacturing methods, quality improvement tools and manufacturing cost reduction techniques. He has also held positions including Purchasing and Supplier Quality / Development Manager, Reliability and Test Engineer for HAVC and Electrical, and Plant Quality Engineer.
