About this seminar:

From early industrialization to modern times, manufacturing in Latin America has enjoyed a long history but only limited success. Shifts in modern manufacturing materials, production methods, market distribution and logistics are changing the future. Opportunities are emerging that are already bringing the next global wave in manufacturing to the doorsteps of many Latin American countries, but it remains to be seen which ones will successfully ride the wave.

We’ll examine the history of Latin American manufacturing and identify the global trends that are driving enormous, and still growing, opportunities. We’ll also examine the barriers to success in the forms of tariffs, regulations and tax policies that retard, and in some cases prevent, growth in the sector. Whether you’re developing global supply chain architecture, building factories or marketing products, Latin America will be presenting major opportunities – and threats – for decades to come.

About the Speaker / Presenter:

Michael L. Hetzel

Vice President, Americas – Pro QC International

With over 20 years of experience in manufacturing Michael Hetzel first became involved with global trade in 1993, early in his 9½-year tenure as President and CEO of Broadview Injection Molding Co., Inc. At Broadview he developed comprehensive operational initiatives along with a selective outsourcing strategy and several export markets. Over the next five years the company experienced 480% profitable growth as a direct result and was sold to a public corporation in September of 1999.

In early 2000 Hetzel launched a consulting practice, Effective Manufacturing Strategies, working with U.S. manufacturers and tooling companies in several critical areas including global competitive strategies, strategic sourcing, global marketing, advanced quality practices, lean operations and plant design while refining his strategic approach to manufacturing and international trade with each project.

In March of 2002 Hetzel joined Pro QC International, a Taipei based quality and engineering services firm with operations in 38 countries, to serve as Vice President / Americas and to launch a subsidiary. He continues in his position at Pro QC today and also engages in international strategic consulting and transactional projects with manufacturers and life science companies as President of Northern Galaxy Corporation. Hetzel is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank Chicago District Industrial Roundtable and Manufacturing Roundtable and has served as a director on several corporate boards. He’s a registered business broker and he regularly speaks and publishes articles on the subjects of global manufacturing, quality control and global trade.

About this Seminar:

Abstract: Companies sourcing from China and greater Asia have enjoyed relatively stable conditions for nearly 20 years. Unfortunately, conditions affecting raw materials, labor, logistics, quality, regulations and currency translations are now changing rapidly and inducing disruptions in supply chain structures across the region while also creating new opportunities in other countries.

In this program we’ll review the current reality of manufacturing in China, Greater Asia, The Americas and Europe along with the present and expected trends emerging throughout the world. Viewers will receive information that will enable them to enhance their understanding of the present conditions and emerging trends in order to create and maintain effective manufacturing strategies, minimize total costs and anticipate potential supply chain disruptions that can lead to delivery delays, increased warranty costs and product recalls.
